Leaders cannot stop the rain. Markets shift, competitors attack, policies change. The storm is coming whether we like it or not. What leaders can do is hand out umbrellas.
The umbrella is preparation. It might be a cross-trained team that can cover when someone leaves, a cash reserve that protects jobs during a downturn, or a set of clear priorities that keep people focused when noise grows loud. Leaders do not promise sunshine. They promise their people will not be left soaked and unprotected.
This builds loyalty. Employees do not expect a world without risk. They expect leaders who anticipate it and shield them enough to keep moving.
At Home
Families need umbrellas too. Parents cannot stop every disappointment or hardship, but they can provide protection, a listening ear, a backup plan, or just a steady presence when things go wrong. Children grow confident not because life is easy, but because they know someone will stand with them in the rain.
Your question: What “umbrella” could you put in place this month that would help your team feel safer in the storm?
